It’s a good idea to keep yourself informed. But if you watch the media, or you consume content on social media, you could very easily get the impression that the sky is falling.
But it’s really important to understand that the people who are feeding you this information, make money off your emotions. Think about it like this.
The reason you want to learn about what is going on in the world is so you can use that information to improve your life, and the lives of the people you care for.
And so it stands to reason that after you learn something by watching the news, or learning something new on YouTube, that there would be a positive call to action. Something that would cause movement on your part to go out there, and get to start applying yourlr new found knowledge.
However, what you will find in pretty much all forms of media, is quite the opposite. The call to action you often receive is to stay right where you are, and consume more content.
“The sky is falling and we are all going to die. Learn how you can protect yourself, right after a word from our sponsor.”
Praying on emotions is an effective way to keep people’s attention. But sitting there listening to all this content that is designed to play with your emotions is dangerous for a couple reasons.
- It creates a false sense of urgency, anxiety and panic
- It robs you of your real potential
On a level, we feel good when we have this anxiety. It satisfies an inner emotion within us to battle and win.
But it’s hollow. We get the emotional hit with zero victory. And this leaves us unsatisfied and looking for something that will satisfy our emotional craving. And that’s when the messaging hits you... “Coming up next!”
It’s actually a pretty vicious cycle that can leave you emotionally bankrupt, tired, and with a lot less time.
All this to say. If you are watching the media, or even talking to your friends who watch the media... there is a good chance you are given the Impression that the Sky is falling.
When all indications are, it’s actually not. To quote the late great poet and philosopher Thomas Earl Petty. “Most things I worry about, never happen anyway.”
Do we collectively have problems that could benefit from our help? Of course we do, but before we can rescue others, we must first be successful and self-sufficient. Otherwise, we just force someone else to rescue us.
Manufacturing
Again, if you are paying attention to the media, or social media... One thing you might hear is that manufacturing is not economically viable in America. People talk about how it's critical that we maintain our global supply chain otherwise we could lose access to cheap goods. But you know what, that's such an oversimplification of reality. How do I know? Well, I happen to be in manufacturing. I have been in manufacturing my entire life. I was born into it, literally, and I love it!
I hear people talking about what we can and can’t do in manufacturing, and I have to laugh to myself, because, it’s obvious they have no idea what they are talking about.
You can tell they are just parroting what they have heard someone else say, and the people they are parroting probably don’t know what they are talking about either.
But the truth is manufacturing can be done, cost effective here in America. I have been doing this my entire life. And my family has been doing it for at least five generations now.
Not only can manufacturing be done here, in America... but it needs to be done here. The world is changing and the global supply chain is changing with it.
It’s not all going to change overnight, but whether or not we like it, over the next six years, Americans are going to need to adapt to a world where the things that we buy are created close to home.
But that doesn’t mean the sky is falling, far from it! That means new horizons are emerging before us. Change is really scary for the unimaginative... the people who can’t imagine a better world. But, keep in mind that everytime there is a shift to the status quo, there’s a new opportunity that opens up.
Regardless of what uninformed people might tell you, there are a whole bunch of reasons why manufacturing is about to explode here... in a good way.
